Yeah uuhm, about that, any pointers to where in The Netherlands to buy quality Ripstop? Both breathing for hammock and properly waterproof for a tarp? All I found was way expensive stuff compared to sites that don't ship internationally or junk fabric hehe... Anyway, I'm being lazy asking this. The good news is Polyester Taffeta makes a great hammock, depending on your weight... I've made a few non-backpacking hammocks out of heavier polyester simply because it was more comfortable on the skin...
I've heard of a few (Grizz?) making hammocks out of Polyester lining material (I think that's the stuff used in the inside of a suit or sport coat.)
Some here will probably chime in...perhaps Sclittlefield will ship internationally? He has a couple of 1.1oz ripstop nylon fabrics at 3-something a yard ($US)

The issue with a sheet-bend, is it's typically used, as I understand it, to connect ropes of differing size. Not sure, though... somebody more knotty than I could chime in...

As weedeater64 said, you really do need to play with your tension and direction of pull. Dressing the know with your fingers tips as you go is also helpful. I tied as cast that consisted of several thousands of knots. Ultimately, a lot of practice will get you there!
