I as some others also do use tow different whips. I use the channel end at my head and the W at my feet. The W I find maked the center line of the hammock tighter. This helps my knees from over extending by keeping them bent. As for the footbox side being tight I just shortened my ridgeline. I find the shorter it is the better my hammock lays but the more loose the sides are. It makes the zipper side really floopy but tie outs have cured that problem.

I have seen that tread. I hope you didn't think I was putting down the DIY/MYOG bug. On the contrary I an bitten. So much so I have agreed to give the two hammocks I'm working on to my brothers and I got some camo to make a new one for me.

Thanks for the feedback - Hammock length is 125", and ridgeline is sitting around 104" right now.

Sewing the bugscreen on, and fiddling around with the shelf depth. What is a typical or original WBBB shelf depth?

Also, how taunt are your tie down on the side, and at what angle (close to the hammock, or farther out? As I am trying to pin the netting down... I am finding quite hard.

I use a 12'' piece of bungee between the tie outs and a single 6' bungee tie to that to the ground. As for angle, I'm really not consistent with a length. I just marlin spike hitch around my steak stretch it out and stab the ground.

Just curious, what is the intent behind using double layers of 1.1 instead of a single layer of say 1.9?

Is it to leave a space for pad insertion?

It is. It gives you the option of using a pad between the layers.

I believe the double layer is also better for bug protection. Some of them pesky things will bite right thru a single layer.

Anyone have weights for their DIY WBBB clones?

Mine is made of a single layer of polyester taffeta from Hancock fabric. Don't know the fabric weight.
It is a bit long at 122" raw length by 60" wide

Heavier than I expected at a whopping 39.1 oz or 1108.2 grams (including stuff sack, whoopies, ridgeline organizer and a 0.54oz led flashlight I leave in the hammock)

I nearly fell over when i saw the weight.

I just finished pinning the bugnet on my first one. Once I cut it this weekend I will weight it with everything in the stuff sack.
