    Greetings from SoCal!

Hi all. I've been a camper my whole life and recently got into hammocks quite by accident. I was borrowing some camping gear from a buddy. He told me that his tent was in the garage. I was going to borrow his 1-man backpacking tent and picked up his Byer by accident. I guess I should have noticed that the bag wasn't tent shaped but in retrospect it was the best mistake I ever made!

It was dark my first night out and I had no idea what to do or where the tent poles were. I ended up wrapping the hammock around my sleeping bag. Several days later some Germans were hiking by. I don't speak German and they didn't speak English. Through a lot of gestures they were able to explain what I was supposed to do with the hammock. Man, it was hilarious. I wish somebody was there to videotape it.

I'm definitely a beginner and would appreciate any advice or product recommendations. Up until a week ago I thought the only hammocks were make of rope and sold at Cost Plus.

Obviously the hammock stuff is where you want to start.

    Also visit Shug's videos here:
Video Series - Hammock Hangin' Shug Style... Essentials For Noobs

Between these two, you will get a good sense of what to expect and you will be better armed to ask all the questions you want.

    Good luck and again, welcome.

Welcome from CenCal! Ain't no party like a West Coast party.

+1 to what the Skipper said. Just Jeff and Shug are great resources for the fledgling hanger (which is what I am and the reason why I spend some time revisiting those sites). Lots of knowledge floating around on this forum, so as you get questions, ask away--tons of friendly people here to help!

By the way, that is an awesome story! Life's full of happy little accidents.
You're gonna need a bigger hammock
