    Cheapie Sleeping Bag UQ Question

I was reading some threads about UQs made from walmart sleeping bags, and felt inspired. I got out my cheap-o sleeping bag and played with it a bit...

I could use maybe half of it for a full-length 3 season UQ. I think that'd work. Then I'd need a TQ, which is probably, what, 3/4 of another sleeping bag? So then I'm backpacking with 1 1/4 cheapie wal-mart sleeping bags... the problem with that is the size of just one wal-mart cheapie sleeping bag:

    I don't think that'd work...

Bearing in mind I'm poor and will not be able to spend any real money on this project, but I do have some sewing skillz. I know I could use a CCF pad. I don't want to, though.

Could I get some suggestions from experienced hangers?

    Thanks!

Find a used Mummy bag. I picked up a down one for $40. Mummies make great TQ's without too much modification.

UQ: Find a KID-sized sleeping bag. Alpine designs (Sports Authority house brand) makes a decent lightweight one that's about the right size to convert to an UQ.

Of course, this all is relative to your expected COLD temp...

I'll check Goodwills and places for used down bags...

My expected low temp is in the low 40's high 30's. I'm new to backpacking, and I expect I'll want some more experience before I try anything below that.
