    Old Down Comforter as UQ?

I have a ENO onelink with the double nest. I want a UQ. I do not want to spend much $$. SO I a have a old 6ft by 5ft down comforter sewn in 12in by 12in squares. I am thinking of picking up a cheap hammock $19.99 at Bass pro and sewing the comforter into the cheap hammock and fitting my double nest (where I am sleeping) in the cheap hammock with the comforter. In theory I would just attach the now down hammock to the same slap strap loops as the double nest or the metal hooks on the double nest itself so the down hammock is hanging just a little bit lower. In theory the down would not be compressed and because I am in a hammock in a down hammock the sides would be covered as well (for the most part at least).

Any suggestions? Will this work? Anyone Tried it before?

    Thanks,

    ALD

i know a few ppl that have tried this......they ended up getting a UQ
this question come up here and there
i think you would have better luck cutting the down quilt down to the size of an UQ...and sewing it all up...then add grosgrain tabs to it maybe even a 1.1 ripstop shell over it to keep the cotton from getting wet and putting channels in the ends for shock cord so you can get a good fit

but if your going to do all that....just make an UQ....will cost you under $75 to make a Down UQ
or you can harvest the down out of the down quilt you have
it will be on the heavy side...but it will work and will be alot cheaper

what it all comes down to is everyone at some point ends up making an UQ...or buying one

it seems like alot of money now....but once you have one you know it's well worth the money
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

I will also add that a good cheap way to stay warm is a SPE....
you could make one for under $20 ....or find someone to make one for you if you can't sew

Paul over at AHE sells a nice kit for around $80....everything you need right down to the tread

if you ask some of the vendors they can even help you out with putting together a list of what you would need...
alot of the vendors on here are great to work with...don't be shy...just ask
