    Cutting Thinlight Pad

I used a utility knife to cut a Gossamer Gear Thinlight 1/4" thick pad last week into 2 sections: a sit pad size and a 3/4 body pad size. My utility box knife cut left a rough edge on the two sections.

    Two Questions

Is there something I can do to clean up the edge so the foam doesn't "flake off" over time.

And should I have used a different tool to cut a more clean factory edge?

Take an old knife and heat the blade up until its red hot and then it will slice through the foam and leave a nice clean edge that won't flake. Just don't breathe the fumes.

I have done this with all my closed cell foam pads.

Thanks BlackGoat. Your tip worked great.

I trimmed the ragged edges off my pad again using my utility knife after I heated the blade with a Bic torch lighter until the blade turned bluish.

I only could cut about a quarter of the width of the pad at a time before the blade cooled and it started to pull at the foam. But I got it done and the edges are now clean.

    Pads

Why do you use 3/4 length pads instead of a full lenght one?
