Anyone have any experience with the MLD Cuben Hex for hammocks? I don't need a new tarp, especially at $300, but it is very intriguing at only 7.8 ounces.

I don't, but I've been debating the same thing. One small nitpick I have with the MLD site is the way each product is listed with the sil price, yet the cuben weight. When you actually click on the picture you realize the version that's affordable is 30% heavier...
Nice tarp. Discussed in this previous thread. Pictures are linked from my gallery on the first post.
Very light, very well made. Sold it when I went back to ground as it was no longer needed.
Looks like Ron has changed his website since I had purchased the tarp. Now available in olive cuben (not the white I had), but he does list the weights and prices for cuben, Spin and Sil.

I have no experience w/ MLD's stuff, but that tarp is nice - especially now that they have the olive green color.
MLD cuben:
11'x8' @ 7.8 oz. green cuben for 300$ very nice tarp
WB Edge spinn ul:
10'6"x7'10" @ 8.25 oz. grey spinn for 150$
I ended up getting the WB Edge tarp in spinn. It's not my dream color but i find the grey does blend in pretty well and maybe better in the winter. I am quite happy w/ the tarp.
It's almost as big. Not as many features/tieouts. I like the middle ground side tieout option, but I can sew that on...
I hear people have tried the MLD cuben tarp and loved them!
I've had an MLD cuben tarp for around a year now, used it a bunch of times. Ron makes great quality stuff. It's been bomber and reliable. The integrated linelocs are a nice feature, although they do require heavier line to work reliably. I found that I don't use the middle side tieouts very often, unless it's really windy. It looks like he raised the weight. It used to be listed at 6.4oz.
I have one of MLD's "olive green" cuben hex hammock tarps. The workmanship is superb. I replaced his heavier line with thinner triptease but with the lines it is right at 10 oz., not as light as advertised but still very light. I like that it does not stretch when wet, drys in minutes, is not noisy like my spinnaker fabric ground tarp. I am extremely happy with it as I have been with everything I have ever bought from Ron. My only comment is that he could easily have gone with much smaller, lighter linelocs and line. There is a photo of my tarp in the gallery that I added today.
Ron sent me a swatch to see the color and see what cuben actually is. The color is very close to a Moss Green or Tea Green. Certainly an improvement over the silver-white colors that cuben is usually available in.
Even at 10 ounces with lines it would cut my tarp weight in half from the Hennessy Sil-nylon Hex. But at $300 for 8 ounces and a Bigmambajamba at $160 and 11 ounces, it looks like Spinn might be the way to go. I wonder if Spinn can be died or painted...
I have a MacCat Ultra Spinn UL and it will hold a mark from a Sharpie brand marker. I tested this on the stuff sack which is made from the same material. These markers can be bought with a wide tip. I was thinking about getting some natural colors and doodling on tarp. Maybe I should bring them on my next hang and assign that as my camp chore
If I was confident that there wouldn't be a chemical reaction that would weaken the material, I'd absolutely mark it up and paint it. Maybe Brian will see this thread and share his insight.
