    IX UQ temps

I'm interested in the IX UQ's but can't seem to find any temp ratings. From reading the forums it seems people are getting them down to the low to mid 40's. What would adding one or two sheets of insultex bring it down to? Also what would adding a silnylon weather protector add? Any input would be great.

If you assume that a full length Universal IX UQ is suspended well...

...you should be able to get to 40*F without any inserts, if you are not a cold sleeper. Personally, I am able to get to freezing without inserts.

With an insert, most people should be able to get to 40*F, perhaps a lot lower.

Thanks for the search results, Shug!

A partner and I just got back from a trip a couple of weeks ago. We were not sure just how cold it got but...

With an IX UQ + 1 Insert and Golite’s new 3 Season Top Quilt I was toasty warm all night.

When we decided to turn it was 10pm and 39*, so I would guess it got into the low 30's that night (elevation of 6,000+ feet).

That's a good combination. I think if you don't have enough insulation on top, it will feel like the IX is not doing it's job on the bottom.

For two nights last weekend, at about 40*F, I had a Baby Orca underneath the hammock. My top quilt was a Speer Top Blanket inside a TTTG IX Bed Roll. Toasty!

I've been good down to the low forties with a single and a 30 degree bag used as a TQ. Last week it was 28 degrees and I was warm with two of the IX UQs mated together. I'd say I'm a cold sleeper. I plan on mating it with my homemade synthetic UQ when it really gets cold. It's an awesome stand alone UQ in the summer, late spring, early fall and a great addition to any other UQ in the winter. It's one of my all time favorite pieces of gear. Very versatile.

An IX sandwich, with the DIY UQ in the middle would be great!

Wind proof, water resistant IX on the outside... and another layer of IX right against the hammock, like hot glue.

I had a double layer IX underquilt with a small pad, and a 20 degree down bag as a top quilt and was very toasty down to 28 degrees last weekend. The IX wrapped up around the sides and kept my shoulders warm while the pad was extra protection from cold butt syndrome. I also took a water bottle filled with hot water and that was plush!!

Had a great time, stayed warm and comfortable in a number of positions during the night. (two nights actually in the 20's)

Shug, how'd you do that search? It doesn't work for me anymore!
