SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE! I've got a 401. The Slant-o-matics are awesome machines. If there is something wrong with yours, it is worth it to fix it. Remember, if you buy any presser feet they have to be for a slant shank machine. Have fun with it!

If I take this in are they going to do anything beyond a good clean and lube. There are good explicit directions in the manual I have for doing that.
Is there something they'll do that I won't if I follow the directions in my manual? Nothing to take apart but a couple of covers, so I'm not worried about really messing anything up.

The only thing I would be concerned about would be removing the old dried on lint and crud. Some of those pieces require very smooth and tight tolerances. They know how to do it properly and can burnish anything that needs that kind of attention. They can check the bushings and such as well. Once the initial service is accomplished you can probably maintain it just fine. IMO it would be worth the trip to the shop. But that's me.
