For those who sew Climashield(cough, Paul)

How do you keep the insulation from wrapping around the foot of your machine? I've made two UQs and a TQ and not had much trouble. But I'm making a TQ for my son for his birthday next month and the insulation is giving me fits.

    Got any tips?

I have figured out that moisturizing lotion on my hands 15 minutes or so before starting work makes a huge difference, but how about that foot thing?

I tried some cardboard in front of the foot last night, but, having only two hands, couldn't lead and feed the fabric and hold the cardboard at the same time. I picked up some clear acrylic today at the hardware store to try "mounting" to the machine so I'd have a similar effect and still be able to see what I'm doing. (I'll certainly share if it works well.)

    Otherwise? . . . .

    Thanks.

    Jbo

PS. Is the 2.5oz as bad as the 6oz? Seems like with less loft it would be a little better - I hope. Got some summer gear to make while it's still cold.

I'm not Paul, but I have used either Climashield or Primaloft in projects.
I sew with my hands to either side and in front of the foot. My thumbs overlap and my fingers keep the insulation from billowing up. It is tiring, since you don't want to add any extra weight or drag to the fabric going through the machine, since that would mess up the stitch length.

The problem I have is the toes of the presser foot digging into the insulation. So I wrap it with carefully trimmed scotch tape. Helps.

I'm not Paul, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night!

personally, I turned the quilt over so the insulation is facing down...the nylon is facing up and the presser foot never touches the climashield

I have sewn climashield to both nylon and Insultex by cutting the fabric 2" larger than the climashield and folding it over the edge of the climashield, then sewing the sandwich.

I've considered all those except the tape idea. May try that one. Last time I stuck one finger right in front of the foot. Worked pretty good, except I couldn't concentrate on anything because I was so worried about sewing my finger to the quilt - OUCH.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

Animal, I've considered that many times, but worry about fouling the bobbin. Had any issues with that?

Turn it over. You won't foul the bobbin but the stuff won't snag the presser foot.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    Cool. Thanks.

I'd try it tonight, but I'm grilling, so I've had a couple(ahem), which could only end badly.

I'll give it a go tomorrow.

Sewing with the Climashield on the bottom works for me, no issues. Well, a few that I've caused, but not with the Climashield
