    Canoeing... or not

    Hi all

On Friday me and a buddy decided to hammock Saturday night and paddle our canoes on Sunday morning.

I duly arrived at the hammock spot Saturday just as it was getting dark the skies had just chucked a load of rain at me so during a lull I put up a tarp, and then my DD frontline. While I was doing that Pete arrived and immediately got a fire going and started cooking a curry. While the food was doing up went his tarp and hammock.

Coffee seemed a good idea so I fired up the kelly, with two sets of flames the place was starting to look cosy. Two chairs came out as did the brandy, the skies cleared and an amazingly bright moon appeared.

We ate tasty curry and chatted, drank good brandy and chatted and time passed pleasantly.

Later on we decided that the moon was bright enough for us to walk along the tow path and look at the river without torches. The river looked stunning by moonlight and we decided we must paddle the river during a full moon one day. Times like this should be treasured it was a beautiful night.

Back at the came the brandy welcomed us and we passed the time admiring our surroundings and supping. Then..... OMG it was well into the next day!

The next game was tackling my brand new snupak underquilt, may be a tad to much Brandy had been supped and I managed to pull the bungie cord into it's sleeve......... much later, bungie back where it should be I clambered into my hammock, my god that underquilt works so in a swinging hammock and Brandy fueled I started removing clothing layers while trying not to fall out.

Temperature control sorted I drifted off to a very, very comfy and deep sleep..................ZZZZzzzzzz.

Waking the next morning in a violently swinging hammock hearing a giggling Pete who was swinging my hammock back and forward I slowly came to, I had managed to sleep in to past 10am! too late to paddle so the canoe is put back on the car and we headed for home to meet a family deadline.

    Short but wonderful escape

Longer next time, with time to paddle.

Sounds like a great time! Too bad you couldn't get a picture of the river in moonlight.

Count me in, moon-light canoeing would be cool . . .

I have sailed much at the coast at night,
and even flown a spinnaker up the south Fraser at night to the lights of the city

Canoe? Canoe?? Did someone say canoe?

Sounds like you had a good time...

Moonlight paddling is wonderful, just make sure you haven't nipped too much before you do it.
