No affiliation etc. and I don't own one myself (already purchased a down jacket this year) but I thought some folks on the forum might be interested.

Guide Gear Down Jacket - $49.97

Polyester shell and lining, 750 fill power with 80/20 down to feather ratio. At the price it might be worth picking one up if you don't already have a down jacket.

I was curious about the weight of these jackets, as I'm looking to upgrade to a down jacket for weight and warmth. I just received a response from them.

Looks like, depending on the size of the jacket, the weight is between 1 1/2 to 2 lbs. Hope this helps.

Hmmm... Just picked up EddieBauer Ultralight 700 fill down jacket for $69.99 at birthday sale.... weights 15 oz and super warm.... Ditching fleece layers out of my pack...

FWIW, before I saw the GG jacket, I picked up a Land's End Snowroller down vest and down jacket, both as overstocks. The jacket is still available in a few sizes for $69.99

650 fill power down, but very warm, rated -5 to -30 fahrenheit and it has some nice features like velcro cuffs and pit zips. The women's version is also on overstock and is even cheaper, so my wife and I both got one. My size medium weighs about 26oz on my scale.

The lands end snow pack 700 down jacket is were it's at. At only 14oz. for a large and great quality for the price(under $60) this is a great jacket to cram in your pack for camp.

I'm still on my first year getting back into backpacking, and my clothing is a bit on the heavy side (at least it seems that way). I use a marmot catalyst jacket (13.6), an old Columbia fleece vest (12), and an rei micro fleece shirt (12) for cold trips. Rain gear (driducks or rei ul rain suit) are used as a shell, and I take all 3 when temps are predicted to be below 40 (haven't gone below 30 yet). I do primarily 3 season packing, but the bug to go more often has me looking at colder trips this fall.

I'm not to worried about pack space, but the weight savings from some of the more expensive down garments would be huge. Just don't have the cash to go that route yet. My base pack weight is between 18 1/2 to 20 1/2, depending on whether I take the bear canister. Food, water, and optional fly fishing gear put me in the 25 to 28 lb range for 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 day trips. I can definitely tell a difference though, when I'm below 23 lbs vs. 28 lbs, and I think the down gear would help with that.

I just saw that one in the link Jay posted. Definitely a good price and weight combo for what I'm looking for. Thanks for the info.

The SnowPack jacket is 700 fill and myles_to_go helpfully provided the weight at 14oz. The Land's End SnowRoller is 650 fill, and I weighed mine at 26oz - much heavier for backpacking but also rated for warmer temps (-30 to -5 on the SnowRoller versus -5 to +15 on SnowPack). Overall the SnowPack looks like the better deal for backpacking.

They've only got a couple sizes left and only in blue, so act fast
