Hiking vs. Hangs

Note to self--easiest way to make friends: offer to cook for people.

In all seriousness, I plan to go to quite a few hangs. Once I get my hanging gear, my money can start to go to the more important things: food and transportation.

I also bring a small trailer full of firewood...a camp without fire just isn't a camp.

This is my Hiking gear at the moment.

Light but Earth bound.

Or sometimes even more minimal.

This on the other hand, is the kind of gear I take to a bushcraft meet up, which I guess is something like your hangs.

I like to be comfortable at meets.

I just attended the Texas hang last weekend, which was my very first car camping experience! I was totally clueless as to what to pack, as I am a lightweight backpacker.

I learned many things from this hang, but if I had to pick one, it would be, "Bring a chair!"

Hiking? That's what I do between the couch and the fridge. Out in the woods? ATV gets me around. This year I did get some religion and left the TV and the chainsaw at home. Campfires while dispersed camping in the (pitch) Black Hills will get a $5K fine, and the gummint boogered the free TV reception. I did bring the police scanner,instead, since I was camped Halfway between Sturgis And Deadwood. Spied on the cops and forest service. Thanks to a mountain lion that regarded humans as a curiosity, it was a short, nerve wracking trip this year. Got a new .45 for next yr. Here kitty kitty kitty!

I just started hammocking this summer and I've not attended a Hang.....yet. Maybe next summer. When I do, I'll follow Jsaults lead and bring a comfy chair. My weapon of choice is the Lounge Lizard. Big, bulky, and heavy as heck..... but don't you know we still strap those suckers to our rafts and haul them down the river. Sadly, now that I've discovered the hammock, my Lizard gets left home at lot more.
Another must is my dutch ovens. Nothing better than cobbler, brownies, and bread hot out of the dutch. Yum Yum Come and Get You Some !!!!!

usually for just car camping my rule is " if I might use it, I bring it." I'll even bring a lot of extra suff if it is a short hike to a multi day camp. For eample I am going camping for four days three nights the week after Christmas and I am packing pretty heavy. It's a mile hike to the camp site but I personally can deal with a pretty good amount of weight for that short period of time.
