Why can't you post what state you are from?
So it would make it easier to find people in your area?
I know you have a Google map thing but this would make it real time.

Maybe he means me? I put Northern IN rather than my city. I like the little bit of privacy. If someone sees where I am from and pm's me I am happy to converse with them and discuss exactly where we are located and how to get together. Has worked for me so far and I have met some fantastic people in my area.

I would like to Bump this thread up
The trouble with only having a location field, and not a State Field, or a Closest Major City field, is that people can enter in just about anything.
For example, if I search for "California", I will find everyone who has put "Cali" or "California" in the location field, but not those who put "Los Angeles" or "San Francisco," or "Anytown, CA."
In fact, when I noticed that I did not come up in the search under the term "California" because I had my location as "Whittier, CA," I did search for "CA." I showed up in the search results then... along with a LOT of people from Canada! (I subsequently changed my location to "Whittier, California.")
I think a State AND City field will help those seeking to organize a hang.
My .02 cents.
