Insulation is absolutely needed in the winter October through January is indeed very cold. But on the brigh side, those are also the least buggy times of the Year so bu netting isn't needed.

Yeah, snow and under 30 degree temps tend to do that lol! I loved it when I was there though.

I am planning on doing a few of these for my kids and myself. I plan on having them run over the ridge line. I picked up 6 yards a 108" wide tulle. That should give me enough to go over the ridgeline, and still be able to drape down past the hammock.

I was just thinking that instead of the bungee under the net, just sew in a small rock pocket and let gravity make a seal for you. BUT (there's always a fatal flaw in my plans) would that create a gap across your waist for the bloodsuckers to get in?

I've got version 2 in the works. I add a flap for the waist and an elastic band that snugs everything. It works great. I'll post an illustration in a new post.

They were in the store. I used tan, but black was available too.
I made one of these this morning using this:
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-...colate/5996096
I used the weights vs. shock cord and it seems to work - easy to tuck into UQ and it rolls up to the size of a baseball (very light too). No bugs here until April so testing will continue then. My only concern is how well it will breath to vent heat (or will the Wal-Mart window panel be to hot in the summer).
Thank-you very much for posting these plans. A great bug net for under $5. This brings my DIY hammock system to the same capabilities as my HH.

I haven't posted anything yet, as I'm neck-deep in writing/updating my book to v2. As I work on the new illustrations, I'll post the result. I don't have a timeline yet, so I don't want to make any promises.
