OK, I have been lurking in the shadows for a few weeks now and want to show my face.
I found out about this site through a local mountain bike forum that I hang out in when someone posted about their bike-packing trip.
I currently live in GA, but grew up in TN. I camped quite a bit with the scouts and my family while growing up, and am passing the experiences along to my family now. My dad always had a hammock stashed with the tenting equipment, but it was always used for relaxing and napping in rather than sleeping over night.
While not a weight weenie, I do try to travel light (an RVing friend who I camp with calls the lack of Tivo, roughing it … ). I have found plenty of (well, too many) projects to start working on here. I have talked about making a hammock with each of my kiddos and they are excited as I am about getting into the hanging scene. They have each picked their favorite colors for their respective hammocks, so I am sure our camp site is going to look like some spilled a bag of Skittles.
Thanks to all of the regulars here for the info that has been posted. I will go back into the research mode and started gathering more info for supply purchases. It will be a few months before I actually have the time to put anything to an overnight test, but I will post some pictures when the hammocks are finished.
