    Single line whoopie question

Sorry if this has been brought up before, but I couldn't find it in another thread.

I'm making a set of whoopie slings and I'm curious if the loop is needed on one side vs singular lines with buried ends. Essentially using two pieces of rope with the longer buried into the shorter or does this need to be a loop so the bury constricts on itself?

Here's a really basic illustration for my question (excuse the poor artwork)

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks

Never had whoopies, but I have an adjustable ridgeline that is 1 piece, ie 1 static loop and one adjustable loop. I would guess whoopies are put together the same.

HobieCat - what you describe is an UCR (Utility Constrictor Rope or something similar). Do a search for it.

One down side is that the tag end of the constrictor ( the right end of the left rope in the top drawing you provided) isn't under constant tension so the other rope can slip. Some folks hang a small object (boot, etc) off the tag end so there is a little tension and that seems to work.

Take a look at this posthttp://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...1&postcount=59, and then the whole thread.

Yesterday, I made a set of 7/64" Amsteel UCRs for my (soon to come I hope... oh, please... stop this madness and just get here) WBBB. I used the exact same o-rings Frawg used (except I used two o-rings per UCR - overkill, but i didn't want to lose use of the UCR if one broke).

My wife and I played tug-o-war with them once done, and I hurt her long before the bury slipped (not really, but she let go before it hurt).
