    UCR tensioner

Been reading up and watching videos and plan to upgrade my suspension.

The whoopie sling looks good and AFAIK the only real difference between it and UCR is that you trade needing twice the line length for added security that it won't slip during the night since both ends of the bury remain under tension.

At first glance I thought I'd take the security but as I aspire to eventually be something of a gram weenie I've been mulling this over.

I have seen the loops for attaching a weight to the other end of a UCR to add tension but I've been wondering... why can't you just take some 1/8" or even 1/16" shock cord and attach it to the slack end of the UCR and then after a few inches tie it around the main line in a prussic so that it tugs on the bury?

Are there threads on this I'm missing? Is there a reason this won't work?

i have tried that, and think i remember seeing it talked about on here.the reason i can think of i did not like it is every time you adjust length you must slide the shock prussic, then adjust the line /slide the shock prussic, then adjust the line /slide the shock prussic, then adjust the line.on a long adjustment it gets old fast.

Made a pair of 6' total length UCRs out of 7/64" Amsteel using Danco 1/8" ID #60 O-rings as described in this post.

Slept on them last night in wife's BB. Held just fine - no slipping.

I have a set of 8' UCR's that Opie made for me last year and mine have the extra prussic on the tail end that it attached to the main line to keep tension. The adjustment isn't hard at all, it just takes a little effort to figure out how to do it and then it isn't a problem at all. For the most part if you can eyeball your tree spacing right from hang site to hang site as being relatively close then there is minimal adjustment needed.

    Cheers

Yep, most of us that use UCR have some kind of tensioner/graple on the unburied end. I use regular whipping and I use mason line for the whipping.

I use a prusik, but it's a soft shackle. The tail of the UCR has a stopper knot, and I can connect the prusik there. Makes it a tad bit easier for big adjustments. The soft shackle is made of Zing-It, which is rated to something like 150 lbs, and so can take quite a bit of tension without slipping.

Nice work on the multiple rings, Shane! I was wondering about that.

do yourself a favor, and just make or buy yourself some whoopies. They do weigh about .25 oz more, but you dont have to work about it slipping. You dont need to cary extra cordage or have a prussics with whoopies. I speak from experience when i tell you to just use whoopies, i have UCRs now and i hate them with a passion, and i feel like i wasted like 15 ft of amsteel.
    Thanks,
    Dan
