In less than a week...

the 9x9 Neo tarp, Ed's book, two Trek light doubles and two sets of Carabiners have arrived on my doorstep. Has this thing snowballed or what?
Either snowballed or is spiralling out of control.

The hammocks look well made, I wasn't expecting to see hooks on the ends. Seth and crew got these off fast, as I ordered them on Monday' sale. These are my first cloth hammocks and I am admittedly skeptical. My hand knotted hammocks are all I have ever used. My 250# carcass has never been an issue with the netting. The ability to repair on the spot will definitely be lost.

I know the doubles are rated for more weight than that so I will just have to take the plunge.
I am the world's worst for carrying stuff in my pockets. That is one thing that will have to change with the cloth.
Any suggestions for replacing the hooks or should I leave them alone for now?

Congratulations on your new gear.

Everyone has their own opinions about suspension, but I'd take a close look at webbing+cinch buckles if I were you. The hooks work okay, but other options can be more versatile.

What's next? Underquilt/pads?

Yep I got webbing (Outdoor Widerness Fabrics 1" woodland green camo)
cinch buckles, and Mammut Moses biners on my Treklight double.

one of the S hooks that came w/ my ENO bent & i was still around 195lbs at that time.
maybe it was just a bad hook but i wouldn't trust them myself.

S hooks with an ENO? I've bought several (traded some, gave some away) and they have all had biners included.

The hooks on the end? On each end of the hammock i would assume.
I think they should be replaced with ring buckle supports (search "Ring Buckle" in this forum to find a HUGE thread on them)
I have the ring buckles and LOVE them.

Both of my ENOs came with the hooks and the Trek Light also came with hooks, but they were kind enough to include a set of biners.

Steene- you won't have any problems with the material. I was 240ish when I got my first ENO and used it for about 6 weeks (full-time hammock sleeper) with no issues. The Trek Light stuff is the same material.

I agree with the rest; rings or buckles. It just makes things soooo easy.

I guess after 14 years of tying up and using string hammocks it's time to broaden my horizons a little. I will probably bring one of mine along as a back-up until I gain confidence in the cloth units. (O ye of little faith)
I would hate to have a trip ruined due to a rip or blow out.
I guess that webbing is next on my list and possibly those buckles as well. They certainly seem to have a loyal following here. Ed carries some and I have been very impressed with the way he does business. Trek Light has treated me right, too.
Just thinking that I could replace the hooks on the hammock with the CC buckles and use the Trek light Carabiners on the Speer webbing and be done. Does that sound right?

Also, does anyone use a buckle type set-up on their tarps?

Sounds like the buckles could work that way... there may be an easier way though.

A few folks here use the Nite Ize figure 9 thingy to put up their tarps..
