    Need baffle help right now

I am in the middle of sewing a quilt and i dont know how big of strips of mesh to cut for the quilt. I have the baffles spaced 5 inchs apart, im planning on 3" of loft with 900FP down using about 13oz of down. If someone can help me that would be great. Advice was offered on BPL, but im still unsure and dont want to screw it up. I only have one shot at this. It was said that the baffle nanoseeum mesh should be cut in 3" strips, will the down stretch the mesh? If im using 1/4" of the material to sew on each side, then its only 2.5" that can expand.

    help!

IMO, no the down will not stretch the mesh...

if 2.5" is what you want, sew away!

I want 3 inchs of loft. Does that mean i should use 3.5 inchs of mesh to make the baffles since .5inchs will be consumed by the sewing of the baffle to the quilt?

I would make the baffles a bit smaller than your desired loft.
If you want a 1/4" seam allowance on both sides, maybe go with a 3" strip. If you make the baffles' finished width the same size as your loft, you have to overstuff, because the shell fabric (especially if you diff. cut) will bulge out in between the baffles.
Basically, you've got it right. a 3" strip is what you want. The down won't stretch the mesh.

    Good luck injecting!

After i make this one, im going to make one tapered, probably next year. A tapered head hole quilt would be the ultimate top quilt in my opinion.

not too be difficult, but IMO the baffle height is the shortest point and henceforth is where you measure the thickness of the quilt.

If you think you need 3" to be warm, make your FINISHED baffle height 3". Yes, most of the quilt will be 3.5-4.5" But you will be cold throught the thinnest place.
