My son has been experimenting a lot with his clark now that cold weather has arrived at the Adirondacks. He is starting to think the same way as the person in that web site. He can sleep warmly down to 20 degrees with a pad and appropriate clothing but for winter hikes in the high peaks a bivy (and perhaps a vapor barrier) with a bag, tarp, and pad will take him a lot lower and be a lot safer in case of extreem cold.
