Well got my new snow shoes yesterday , waiting on winter incubator now , need to get a few little odds and ends trying to get a pulk by then but not sure spent to much as it is lately. . I am hoping for more discussion with trip after the holiday's. figuring out group meal for night one etc. I want to do a test hang with winter incubator in lowest temps I can get to between now and then so I am all dialed in.

As mentioned before, I do not have snow shoes and will be counting on you to break trail if the snow is THAT deep

Pulk! I only get out a couple times a year when the snow is such that a pulk would be useful; so, haven't made that investment. Cabelas has a plastic one for $35 - $40 - If there's deep snow, I may grab one enroute.

Group Meal Night One: I cannot eat ANY spices; so, probably count me out. My diet is easy; Bland & Boring and I will bring my own. If there's anything I can bring...? Let me know, OK?

How far in is the spot for the first night? I think you said 3-4 miles...? When will most be getting to that spot? Noonish til dark....? If I come up Thursday and stay at the Benezette Hotel, I can get there most any time Friday to help gather wood and get the signal fire going for those coming in after dark

    GPS coordinates

The GPS is another gadget that I don't own nor know how to use; so, please give me directions/instructions using that pdf map you posted.

Or, at least drop some bread crumbs along the trail from the parking area so I can find you

Don't get me wrong, I am experienced and know my way around in the woods. Just want to have a pretty good idea where you folks will be setting up.

Per a "local" I know from up there, cell phones are very "iffy" and probably freeze up anyway. I am leaving my cell in the car with the battery removed.

I also have one of those antique gadgets called a "compass" and know how to use it. But, you are all too young to remember those things which depend upon the moss on a certain side of the trees.

    One Mile...?!?!?! Great....!

I always thought a pulk would be great so I could bring EVERYTHING I own to stay warm & dry

    Thanks!

If you decide to go with the 2nd area up for consideration, I've included a review of a nice spot near Hickory Creek along the Tanbark Trail.
Worth checking out for a one-nighter. There are some really impressive rock formations that could keep you entertained for a while. If you get bored, the Hickory Creek Trail entrance is only 100 feet away. I'm not sure if I could manage the cold temps with my current setup, but I'm working on it.

Always good to have options. Luckily, this state has quite a few. Gotta love PA.

Nice vid, Maleko - Thanks! Gives us an idea of what's up there. That rock out-cropping you were sitting under would be a great place to hang out in nasty conditions. But, Jim will take care of that - Found his YouTube vid where he strung a tarp OVER the fire without setting it on fire! Very clever Jim!

Maleko - RE: Your gear - Just bring EVERYTHING - Haul it in on a pulk! Seems that every hang I have been to, HF folks always bring extra gear for those who either don't have something OR FORGOT that certain piece of gear they left by the front door

    Saving Weight - Duplicate Gear

    Jim - a suggestion:

There are some things that we could "share". For instance, I have a 15" folding Sven Saw that we can ALL use to cut fire wood. That way we won't all be carrying a saw. Or, if someone has one of those pocket chain saws, I've wanted to play/use one of those toys!

Other items that come to mind:

Back-packing-type snow shovel to clear sites
One large tarp to gather under
    Axe

Can you folks tell I am excited? Can't wait!
    Happy Trails,
