Looking for Quilt Ideas

Ok, I've got a few *pounds* of 800FP down coming to me from Canada (I figure it will be a few weeks before I see it). I've got 10 yards of a pretty blue, 72" wide calendered ripstop and 10 yards 72" calendered silvery/grey 1.1 on the way. I've got some soft mesh left over from a Halloween sewing project (it's soft purple/blue sparkle mesh I'm not sure is suitable but it's what I have).

I'm looking for some fun quilt ideas. I already own a Winter Yeti Long/Wide, and I have a Stormcrow Winter Incubator on the way. So I'm currently pretty well set for winter quilts. I also have a JDempsy TQ that more or less suits me down to 32F.

I'm thinking about making a big karo TQ/UQ to start with. Something 3S bordering on Winter that I can keep as a spare/back-up/loaner. I'm also thinking of making a down throw for my Mom for Xmas. Probably a sew through with 1" of loft.

I'm just looking for ideas, features, concepts, thoughts, or suggestions. Nothing specific...I'm just in the daydreaming/planning stage till the materials arrive.

My fiance and I called around to every shop we could find, and she found one that would sell me down, but only if I bought it in 5lb increments. I think it's coming out to $5 per oz shipped. I really only need 2lb I figure, so I'll probably be pawning off whatevers left in the For Sale section. Sorry I don't have the name of the company handy, I'll see if I can find it and share it.

I had that same question as it's hard to follow unless you *see* it.

The short version:

You start with two halves (shell) of the quilt.

You draw out the where the baffles go on each shell half

You tape the baffles to one shell half, and go hit the thread injector to stitch them in place (remember to remove the tape when done).

Then one by one you stitch the baffles to the other half of the shell.

Sew up around the edges leaving the sides of the baffles open (or any spot on karo since you dump once and shake to distribute).

Add down and sew shut.

Finish up with any trim or drawcords or "features". Enjoy your downy goodness!

These turn out beautiful. I better not try it though. Looks like it would be one big fluffy white disaster.

sew a head hole into the middle of your quilt to make it like a jrb. MAke it wearable that way you can ditch that heavy insulated camp jacket and wear a baggy rain shell overtop the quilt in camp if its raining. I carry a mont bell thermawrap and a wearable quilt. ITs all i need, now of course i have an uq as well. Frogg toggs work well to wear over your quilt as they are super light and baggy, allowing the down to loft inside the jacket. GEt a tight fitting jacket and you compress the down.

On a similar idea...I was thinking about making a "snuggy" down throw for when I want to sit outside and read on the deck when it's cold.
