I have a 3\8 cable running from tree to tree in my backyard for the dogs runner, I have hung 4 hammocks from it. One hammock for each of my boys, and mine. I have several big oak trees but nothing that is close enough to hang from, so when I was hunting a place to try out my DIY's I made for the boys, the dog runner was a prime choice. I'm planning on sleeping there tonight.

I did this hang at a campground in the Panhandle of Florida. It was a covered picnic area.

White oaks or black oaks of sufficient age can net you better results than live oaks.

OK Mom, I'll consider all the safety and legal issues before hanging, but in the desert southwest telephone poles, sign posts and other usefull vertical members are going to be used.

I was really trying to open a thread where I (and others) could see the efforts and creativity of the members here to hang when nice convieniently placed trees are not available. I'm sure there are similiar threads, but forums are for continuous (and many time redundant) discussions.

    OK, I have one.
I dont have pics, but I set up on the 2 taller fence posts that made up either side is an old ranch gate. I left the gate open and parked in the road so my friends wouldn't run me over. Worked great til the cows came by and started chewing and rubbin on it. That will wake you real quick. I eyeballed an even better gate a few hundred yards away, but it had a cattle guard. In the morning I walked over an inspected that gate closely and noticed 4 rattlesnakes under the guard pipes. glad I did not choose that one.

From me, this is a compliment BTW!

    Rock Hanging tool

This would probably do a good job for hanging on rocks. It's a climbing cam. They can support a lot of weight.

    Camp USA Tri-cams

I bought these for an optional hanging method on an upcoming rafting trip. I never used them on the rafting trip but I did some testing at home, and they worked great.
