    Nalgene sleeping bag

So I tried the nalgene bottle with hot water and a sock on a recent cold hang. Wow I was amazed and inspired to make this.

Don't critique the stitching. I slung it together with some scraps and some synthetic insulation.

Does it work? No clue! I'll find out this week as the forecast has some weather in the 20s.

Is it useful? Probably not worth the effort, but I can't stop sewing !

Great! That insulation should go a long way in keeping liquids liquid when you are below freezing temps like when you are hiking too.

I'm not sure what type of insulation, except to say it's not down for sure. I modified some of those Eddie Bauer travel throws for a lightweight UQ and this is the leftover from cutting it to size.

    Nice work!
I use Reflectix cozies on my water bottles. Using some kind of insulation on the bottle is handy. I find it bleeds enough heat through the open end of the cozie to provide some comfort and the water stays hotter longer. I've also put the water bottle in the Reflectix cozie and then put it in an insulated bag outside of my hammock and it stay liquid all night.

Nice idea! Friend of mine forgot his UQ last fall and we resorted to using a nalgene to try and keep him warm. I think he said it only last a few hours...maybe if we'd had this along as well he'd have gotten 3 hours of sleep instead of 2 heheh.

Looks nice! I really admire you guys that are handy with the skill of sowing.
I never really thought about using a sowing machine until I started reading this forum and seeing the neat things people make here.
It makes me want to go out and by a sowing machine.

oldraven - There is good reason there are no closeups! For MYOG efforts function beats form in my book every time. I just started sewing again (used to hem my pants in high school.. i'm uber short) back in october. I had little skill before so it was like starting over. I'm not great at it.. but I get the job done. I do love making stuff, so that part comes easy.

In short.. get a machine! Stuff sacks, hammocks, straps, tarps, quilts... all of them work just fine if you mess up the stitching a bit.
