Being financially "stable" after 5+ years of struggling, this is my only obsession. and after that long of a layoff from fun/let-loose/spend-what-you-want hobbies, it is still tough. Hence, I'm fully engaged in the DIY hammocking realm. I've even turned our living room into my sewing room, torn apart and rebuilt an old injector from the attic, and sneaked a hammock into work to lounge in.

We should really thank our loved ones for not locking the doors on us...Of course, we could always survive sleeping in the hammock and cooking over the supercat or bushbuddy.

Slot car racing- several thousand invested in this over that last 12 years or so.
Airsoft- couple hunderd over the past seven years.
Four wheeling- not much yet maybe a few hundred.
Camping- not much i have a lot of hand me downs.
    Hammocking maybe- few hundred
Skiing- I put out for a new pair of slalom skis once every few years and a pair of demos for powder skiing once every few years.

I also enjoy knotting, and video games. When I was little there was soap box derby racing.

I am the kind of person who buys everything they need to really get going and then cruise from there.

The real fun will be when you get out there and it rains the entire time! That's when the obsession begins.

I just started this hammock venture less than a month ago so its probably to soon to be considered obsessed but, just yesterday I was looking at the JRB complete suspension online and the wifes quote was " don't you already have a suspension, whats that new thing in the bag next to your hammock." I politely explained to her that the slap straps were not going to work in the long run. And so it begins.

===> True, Saint! We had torrential rains at the NY/NE hang in Vt, and we had a ball! We were more interested in all the various cooking systems at the communal table, and the rain seemed like an afterthought.

It's only an addiction if you're trying to quit.

Me too. As I see it, hanging isn't an obsession. It's a lifestyle.
