    replacing ropes with straps

Plan: removing stock ropes on my Clark NA and replacing with short piece of webbing with carabiner loop at one end so I can use with slap-strap.

Problem: I dont have a sewing machine to put the proper loops into the straps. Can I simply use knots? Like a bowline on each end of the strap, one for the hammock and one for the carabiner? or is this not a good idea?

an overhand with a bight would probably work fine, as long as your webbing is plenty strong.

If you haven't already purchased the webbing I remember reading that some places will sew in the loops for you if requested.

Take the straps to an alteration shop. That's how I got my first loops sewn and I think it cost me $10 for both of them.

Here's what I put on my mom's hammock. Don't ever have to worry about it breaking, or the stitching failing.

says, "pound for pound, dynex is stronger than steel..."

rei has daisy chains too, kind of expensive but they'll never ever fail less you rope to a razor blade

I always thought those would make great slap straps if only hey were longer. May still work, and definately no stretch.
