    Sending dad off in style

Way off topic but couldn't resist posting these pics of our DIY coffin for my dad, who died last Friday at age 90. He always did everything himself and talked of making his own coffin, but as he got up in years never got it done. So my brothers and I did it for him using walnut from trees he planted and we had sawed into boards. The sides were kerfed and steamed, then bent to the classic shape. We forged the hardware from mild steel and added a hand stamped Chevron shaped brass plaque with his name and DOB/DOD. Funeral is Tuesday, we are praying the bottom stays in!

Wow, it's beautiful. What a great thing to do to honor your father. My condolences for your loss. Your father will be proud his boys did that for him.
