    My First DIY - Underquilt

I'm going on a hang the first weekend in December, and thought I should undertake making one of these. I had an old down comforter my wife let me do surgery on, so the down was technically free. I got some DWR ripstop from my local Hancock Fabrics. I was really cold on my last winter hang, so I figured this should help:

    Inside is cut:

    Outside layer measurement:

    One end completed:

    Grosgrain ribbon attachment point:

    Ready to be filled!

After I cleaned up a TON of feathers, here is the finished product (just have to sew the other end):

I will post a report after our trip and let you know how she did!

Great pics, thanks for the info. I'm gathering info and materials for my first DIY UQ. The new (to me) thread injector is up and running. This could be dangerous...

Thanks! I will end up taking higher resolution pics. These are from my phone. I think the last time I sewed anything was in middle school (15 years ago). It was really easy to do, though. I only had one hiccup when my sewing machine tension messed up. I didn't realize it until I was 3/4 done with the end (shown synched up in the picture). Rather than take the time to undo all that thread, I fixed the tension and kept going. Other than that, no problems making it.

Thanks! I'm not sure how much down I used. I kept cutting the comforter open, and kept stuffing until I had about 3" of loft. The quilt is 64"x48". If you can calculate it, that is how much down I used. Oh, I would guess it weighs just under a pound. I will weigh it for real when I get home from work.

How did I fill it? lol. Scissors, broomstick, and my hands. Oh, it helps to have a large, open space at work (when your boss isn't there of course).
