Well, I just ordered the last of the stuff I needed for the hang - now lets see if everything shows up on time...

Mt LeConte has 14" of snow as of today. While those are not the conditions at Roan, it is about the same elevation. It appears that we may get one day with a few hours above freezing. This weekend looks to add a few more inches, and next week a few more dustings with temps remaining below freezing. Lows for that weekend appear to be headed toward high single digits.
Based on all of that, I'm going to take a SWAG and say there will be between 10 and 18 inches of snow up there on our trip. The bottom layer should be pretty compressed.
That should means that pulks will be a "go", but remains to be see whether crampons or snowshoes would work best.

It looks like that site just harvests the NOAA forecast. I do tend to use that one once it gets within ten days. The problem is they don't offer beyond ten days which won't cover next weekend as of yet.

So, anyone else getting excited? Only a week to go!

Oh, btw. what are the winds like up there this time of year? Should I be looking forward to sideways blowing snow, or are we far enough down in the trees to smooth that out a little?

    Cant wait!
