Danger Will Robinson... The Falls trail of Ricketts Glen is closed by now if I understand correctly. They close that trail during the cold weather except to pre approved TRAINED and properly equipped ice hikers. The trail is treacherous in the cold and I understand they are very strict about permitting access only to those qualified, equipped and prepared. There are however, a multitude of other trails that would be open.

If you want to backpack at all, count me out. I can deal with car camping at this point but in no way would I dare to go backpacking in the cold with my health issues as they are. If it is "trunk packing" I could probably swing something. If anyone from the mid-part of the PA wants to piggy back a ride, I have a blazer that would love to make the trip and has much-o cargo space. Seats 5 with a lot of back vehicle space.

Depending on the plans, I'll certainly put it on my consideration list.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    I'm more than curious (subscribed!)

Dingman's used to be a really nice place way back when.. It then went under (or at least looked like it did) for a few years and I believe the state picked it up. It is now a pretty strict place - but that's 'ok' with me. =)

    EDIT: Confirmed-
Dingmans Choice Outdoors, Inc. (operating as "Dingmans Campground") and Dingmans Choice Adventure Outfitters, Inc. are
authorized concessioners of the National Park Service, United States Department of the Interior.

The site says that the bathrooms are closed from December to March. Darn, a warm shower sure did sound great BlackGoat.

Based on what I've read, people who go to Dingmans hoping to be loud and party get kicked out. Those who quietly enjoy a drink don't have any problems. So if party is the goal, look elsewhere.

Do we have a consensus on Dingman's Ferry then? It sounds like a good site with hiking trails for those looking to hit the trails a bit.

Now the hard part. Picking a date.

Since this is your thread Jay, why don't you pick what's good for you and see if others can make it?

I'm open any weekend aside from Christmas... How does the weekend of the 10th work for everybody? Gives a couple weeks before the holidays.

I'm thinking Fri/Sat night hang, pack up Sunday. Suggestions for activities, hikes, food etc.?

So this is a trunk pack.. is that correct? I am going to try and make it if that is correct. I'll be glad to transport folks from the central part of the state. PM me and we'll work something out if you are interested.
