“Republics are created by the virtue, public spirit, and intelligence of the citizens. They fall when the wise are banished from the public councils because they dare to be honest, and the profligate are rewarded because they flatter the people, in order to betray them.” ~Judge Joseph Story

We have been hearing a lot in our national political discourse recently about finding "common threads." As one who has been involved professionally in mediation training I know how important this is to successful problem solving in marriages, organizations and institutions. HF is no exception.
I know because of my particular perspective on a lot of things that are discussed here outside of hammocks that I am in a minority on a lot of issues. I don't want those issues to interfere with my ability to learn, discuss, and engage other members in dialog that will result in my skill enhancement when it comes to all things hammocks. The common thread is hammocks.
That common thread does not negate in any way the positions, feelings, perspectives of anyone on the forum. There is the win. By focusing on our common thread, we respectfully learn from and support one another.
Thanks mods, this position is very helpful to my feeling a part of the forum community.

― Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Good call Just Jeff.
If this were "What's your opinion on Politics, the Military and Religion? Forums.net" then maybe I could see allowing it. But as Canoebie put it Hammocks are the common thread here and that should be maintained. There are, in fact, other venues for expressing opinions on those subjects, wherein it would likely be viewed just as off topic or inappropriate to discuss hammocking.
Thanks for the preemptive strike and for such a fine Forum.
Good luck,

I hate this decision. That's my freedom of speech.
I still respect the folks that run the site and I'll abide by their decision. That's the self-restraint that makes freedom something worth having.
Jeff I totally agree and I hope this is not considered political statement.
