Slept in the Smokies this summer in my ENO Double with no insulation down into the 60s. I was wearing long pants, socks and usually ended up donning a fleece jacket a couple hours after retiring for the evening.

I would have used my PLUQ if I could have figure out how to fasten the bloody thing to my hammock.

No, it was actually in Florida when I was just learning the ways of the hammock.
I can't think of more than 2x since then that I've gone out without an underquilt below me. If it's too warm, I just push it to the side. I'd rather have and not need than the other way around.

70° for me as well, in a light breeze a little warmer. If I get chilled in the Summer I usually just put on my rain gear (Frogg Toggs) or lie on them in the hammock. If it is going to be close to 70° I bring an UQ.

on a 50F night i used a cheap space blanket with the hh supershelter which is just a thin layer of silnylon, but including the oc pad for the torso). no ss overcover. the sb was above the pad and they were both between the ss undercover and the hammock. i was wearing a wool thermal underwear ($50 made in china) with raingear polyamid top/polyester pants in a macpac 350 80/20 duck down sleeping bag (rated 50F for comfort to 10F for extreme fwiw). i was wearing a beanie & thin gloves. overall the sb made the biggest difference and i am keeping it as a permanent addition to my setup... i was really warm all night.

I'll also jump on the 70*-74* bandwagon.

Has anyone tried using a layer of Insultex as opposed to a sleeping pad between the layers of a DL hammock? Given it's thinness, it would probably be a little more comfortable than a CCF pad.

I'm wondering if that simple little thing would let you hit lower temps before having to add a UQ or more bulky insulation...

I've laid on a PP Foam pad (same insulator as insultex but .1" thick) ok-it was laminate floor underlayment.

I was good to about 60 degrees... definitely a vapor barrier, but when it got below 60, I started getting cold...
