Just go to your local Seven-Ellevn store and pick up a chiller straw or probably other similar stores. They are about 3/8 inch aluminum tubing, come in bright colors and cost about a dollar. Cut the size you want and attach a loop of Zing it or Lash it or your cord of choice and attach to the to your tree straps. They work great and are stronger than arrow shafts. The problem Ive had with arrow shafts is the tend to crush. These are plenty strong.
Interesting... I'll have to check my local seven-eleven and see if they have any aluminum slurpee straws
Around here Shell gas has the Polar Pop straws. About 7/16 diameter x 1/16 wall anodized aluminum in a variety of colors.
I've always wondered about pens, if they are usable. No slurpee straws here in the Netherlands. For those wanting to buy pre-made toggles, I believe arrowhead equipment has them?
Still getting the hang of it
No dice on the aluminum slurpee straws at my local seven-eleven. Although the guy behind the counter did try to sell me an awesome curly sponge bob straw.
And even if you saw it yourself, you wouldn't believe it
But I wouldn't trust a person like me, if I were you
Sure I wasn't there, I swear I have an alibi
I heard it from a man who knows a fella who says it's true
Gaelic Storm - Johnny Tarr
Damaged tent poles and thrift store/yard sale carbon golf club shafts. Good idea on the knitting needles.
Shoot, I've got old ink pen shells where the insert has gone dry. They're probably pretty heavy but they're free. But I used strapped suspension or doglinks and a Turtledog. I guess I should look to the future when I use a Tablecloth hammock between the trees and salvage a couple pens.
See, I worked at a place where the purchaser accidently ordered 3 times too many pens and after 5 years they started to dry up and we ended up giving away boxes of 1000, Now 10 years later some of them work, some of them don't. I wish I would have snagged two boxes but I'd just have a full box of dry pens I think. 1 or the last 3 I opened wouldn't work.
Oh, the guy that ordered 20 grand extra of free give away pens? They fired him.
