Found out I am getting a thread injector for xmas. Now I have to take sewing lessons. I have also been watching the videos on the forum on sewing. Figure I will start small and try making some stuff bags first and go from there. Once I figure it out I want to try making a UQ and and TQ.

Search youtube before you spend any money on lessons. There is a ton of valuable info there (just in case you can't find it here).

If you're fairly handy it shouldn't be much of a problem to pick up. Just some buck-a-yard fabric and practice sewing straight lines. Maybe see if you can get your hands on some silnylon scraps or remnants and sew some stuff sacks.

Already pick up a partial bolt of a coated camo material from WallyWorld for $5.00. At that price I figure I have pleanty of material to play with and if I screw it up, no big loss

I wish I could find someone. Stitching stuff together is easy...using all the features and knowing tricks to make things go faster/easier/smoother and better looking take some work!

I was taught in a similar fashion. Spent a couple of weeks trying to figure it out on my own and made fairly good progress. But, when a friend came over and showed me a few of the tricks, it really helped. Besides, sounds like a good enough excuse for a few beers to me.

I still can't sew straight, but I've heard that practicing on ruled paper (be prepared to throw away the needle) helps you keep straight.

also, you can use the guidelines that are usually to the right of the needle (on the needleplate).
