Modified 9x9 Neo (Camo) tarp

So even with my modification, the SG still provides more protection then the Claytor.

My "New" 12 x 12 will have a 13' ridgeline when done (maybe a bit more, well see) & whatever the spacing is between the tieouts closest to the gound tie outs. My goal will be a MacCat but with a wider edge near (at?) the ground.

I'll decidedly be adding undercoating to the new tarp. My 9x9 leaks if I hang in such a way as to touch the tarp. I got soaked this morning. It only leaks if I'm touching it & then only where I'm touching it.

UM, about 1.5 years old/ used at least every 3rd night since purchase. It leaks like the old canvas tents did, by capalary action. Like I said, where I'm touching it. It has always done this, I got SOAKED at traildays Thursday night, Friday & Saturday I rigged so I didn't touch just in case. Last night was supposed to be COLD WINDY & RAINY so I rigged snug. I was fine till about 0700 then it started to rain harder, the nylon sagged, I got wet.
SO! I'll be coating the new tarp (& the old one I suppose) just where my hammock will / could touch.

a 13' ridgline mean is what you get from a 9.2X9.2 square. so you must be planning to cut a lot off of it, maybe turn it from a square into a diamond?

a 12x12 square has a 17' ridgline. if hung diagonally.

sounds like a pour dwr coating. a sil tarp shouldn't do that.

These tarps are coated with polyurethane I think.

for the weight i would say probably yes. still shouldn't leak like that unless it was a very pour application

Are you sure it wasn't condensation. I have had the same problem with my 9x9 on really humid nights with no rain at all.

stupid question on my part, why cut away the triangle section of the tarp. Don't you reduce your rain coverage area and a place to sit and cook if it is raining? Seems to me you could have added loops at the seam section on each end. The you could put some velcro on the traingle section and pulled it back up and attach it. That way you have both options available for rain and no rain.

One reason was that I could not get this diamond shape tarp set up to be very taut. A hex shape will help with that. And if I'm setting it as a hex, why have extra material hanging around (velcro'd to itself?) when that material can be used elsewhere? I can always tie them back together if need be (if it rains, for instance), except now I can ALSO move them to the windward side, in order to block the wind and rain, or make end-caps out of them, or whatever... (still looking at some other options).

Second, I wanted to be able to see out. Those triangles kept me from seeing a good part of what's around.

3rd, to set up in more narrow places. I found that the triangles on the sides forced me to set the tarp up wider than I would have liked. Or again I'd have extra material hanging unused if pitched without using them.

4th, it was a fun experiment I wanted to try on this inexpensive tarp to try to make it work the way I thought it should.

And other than THAT, there's no reason. Just for kicks.
