    TQ Edge Finishing

How do the pros finish the edges of a down TQ? I've made some synthetic ones and it's nice that you can turn it inside out and hide the stitching. I'm about to make a down TQ to match my down UQ and wonder how to finish the edges the neatest since you can't put the stitches on the inside.

Who knows how to best accomplish that?

    Thanks.

heres what we do at enlightened equipment.

We fold the edge of the fabric in 1/4-1/2" ans sew it down 1/8" from the edge. this creates a shell and a liner that both have a hemmed edge. sew on the baffle so the raw fabric of the hems are on the inside. then we sew the shell and liner together along that line of stitch at 1/8". this makes a much smaller edge seam then rolling does.

Tim - I'm not following. Can you explain it differently?

um, before sewing the edges together they are already hemmed so you just top stitch the hems to each other. This way there is full loft right to the edge.

you could fold and pin so there is only 1 line of stitching but sewing the hem is much faster and looks fine since the 2 row of stitching are on top of each other.

That's awesome, Tim. Why didn't I think of that?

    Thanks.

yeah it is a very easy way to make a nice finished edge. When i first started making down quilts i was struggling to find the right way to do it. The Jacks do the rolled hem and that works fine but wasn't what i was looking for. Nunatak does (from what i can see on their site and pics i've seen) Sews the raw edge then tucks in to create a clean edge. To me that seems hard to keep lined up but they do great. (they might do something else but thats the best i could tell from pics) I wanted the clean look of the Nunatak with less fiddle factor, thats how i landed on my way.
