    WTB: Titanium Whole Rings (weldless)

I'd like to pick up a couple of Titanium whole rings (similar to descender rings, but smaller diameter...) Ideally, they should be around 1" to 1.75" diameter and approximately 1/4" thick.

If anyone has a couple laying around not used, I'd be grateful to buy them from you. BerkeleyPoint.com had them before, but are out of stock at the moment.

    Thanks...

    Have them custom made....

You may want to contact Dutch. He has been looking to do something with 1/8" titanium sheet he just bought. Not the 1/4" you wanted, but 1/8" ti is incredibly strong....
What to do with 1/8th titanium?

I don't know if you can buy them but if you can draw them I can make them. I suggest you make them as small as possible since teh material is expensive.

To be weldless you would probably need to machine the edges of laser cut rings?, pref lathe?

I imagine Ti is no picnic to grind?

Why no welds? If it is done correctly, the welded area can be as strong if not stronger than the parent metal.

and the Ti rings are only $4.95...can that be right? I liked the nut tool as well just thinking of a secondary use for it while backpacking 'cause I do like carrying to hex's 'cause you never know when you might have a rock to hang from.

    Thanks for the suggestions...

I prefer weldless because welded ones are ugly. And more importantly, the strength ratings I remember from seeing them before are better than welded ones.

I'm not sure about the $4.95 ring being solid, grade 5 Ti, but I'll try and email them and see what they say about it...

I'd really be interested in you making a few for me, Dutch...I was told Ti itself wasn't expensive...it's just very, very difficult to work with and the machining time (and breaking of tools) is what gets expensive...I have a pic of a ring I have that I can send if you'd like to see it.

    Thanks again...
