The hammock is hung in the backyard with care
in hopes that cold weather will soon be here
and with hopes that the dead limb in the tree overhead
doesn't decide to fall after I have already gone to bed

Goodluck and have fun SouthMark. Keep us posted!

A few details. Low expected tonight 18º with 16 mph winds and snow flurries. Low tomorrow night 14º with 26 mph gusts.
Nano-7 hammock, Zpacks cuben fiber fly pitched with closed ends tent style. Mac IX UQ next to hammock with JRB No Sniveler over that, Golite Ultra 20 TQ with silk liner. Will be wearing polar fleece mid weight base layer, fleece socks, down booties, DriDucks rain pants, Marmot Power Stretch balaclava, stocking cap, fleece mittens, and Golite down jacket. All items I would normally carry in cold weather.
Some pics of my backyard setup for the next two nights in the teens.
Nano-7 hammock and Zpacks cuben fiber tarp.

Good luck in the cold Southmark...............sorry you couldn't make it this weekend to the H.O.D. Hang. We had a great turnout over the weekend and woke up to ice on the tarps this morning!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, looks like fun! (I have to say I laughed at the juxtapostion of "Alabama" and "deep winter" till I read your forecast..that's COLD!)
(and would it be rude to say that the 'green' cuben tarp looks a lot like the plastic my lettuce comes wrapped in?)
have fun testing! and don't lock the back door...

Well it's 6:00 am and I just this moment came inside. The thermometer hanging on my ridge line read 15 degrees. I crawled in the hammock last night a little after 11:00 after fueling the internal furnace with a large slice of pecan pie. The temp then was 31 degrees with a strong wind and gusts of up to 20 mph. I settled in and fell asleep quickly. I did not wake until 1:30 for a call of nature. The temp was still around 30 degrees. I woke again at 3:00 and was very warm to almost hot. Made another nature call, adjusted the hammock (raised the foot end a little) and went back to sleep. Slept to 6:00.
It was a good night and a good test. I had a few items at the ready that I never needed; space blanket, JRB down hood, and Montbell down bag. With the IX/No Sniveler UQ combination I never had a cold spot, no cold butt syndrom. The Golite TQ with the clothes I wore was very warm. I probably could have done without the silk liner which was only over my lower body. I believe that I could go down another 10 degrees with this setup. The cuben tarp held up very well in the high winds. All in all I am very pleased and ready for some winter hangs ( just not in Minnesota Shug).
