Question Coated Polyester. $1.00 per yard?

I found almost ten yards of 2oz coated polyester in Wal Mart today, as well as 5 yards of 1.1 oz silnylon.
Has anyone heard of COATED polyester?
    Thanks for your help.

Yep! That's all I've ever been able to find at Walmart.

Cannibal, do you make anything out of it? It isn't all that heavy at 2 oz per yard.

I've made a handful of hammocks with it, no problems. They have been given as gifts to friends.

You can see the glare of the coating in this shot. My first DIY hammock; sure have learned a lot since.

is that stuff woven like rip stop? with the little squares? I think I have a bunch of it in dark green and pale light green- I guess I'll make hammocks out of it- it doesnt seem like it would breath real well if at all???

Yep. The only way I can tell the difference between in and nylon is to use one of the tests mentioned on this site. I use the 'burn test', mostly because I like fire.

I haven't really put enough nights in a polyester hammock to say for sure if it breaths well, but I didn't notice any difference in my limited experience with them. Most of my DIY hammocks have been experiments; same fate as lab mice.

Big cojones and brain cancer? Man, those are some crazy hammocks!

I haven't noticed a big difference in breathability, except for the treatments. I have noticed that polyester tends to be softer and stretches less, which makes it more comfortable for me.
