So I finally finished the project (no weighted pocket).
Wish I had made it a bit larger, and with a tougher material. It did not seem very happy carrying 2 pairs of shoes, I don't want to know how it feels about carrying my pack.
Pictures to follow,

Love the original. Love the DIY version. Eventually, I think I want both!
MacEntyre is indeed very clever.

Finally set mine up at my old man's place. Hung it over my DD frontline and it looked like a cradle for a baby. Recommend using a larger square to start off with, as this will allow for you to have more "flap" and also you will be able to fit in a larger pack inside there. I had my backpack and motorcycle jacket in mine and the jacket fell out when I got into my hammock.
For those having volume problems (stuff falls out when Gear Box is loaded)...
I use a 4' ridgeline on fabric that is over 5' wide. That's a ratio of 4/5.5, a little less than 0.80. A smaller number makes for larger volume. Don't go with a ratio larger than 0.80.
For instance, if I use Silpoly XL that's almost 6' wide, and stay with the 4' ridgeline, that's a ratio of 4/6, or 0.67, which will make for lots of volume!

I have lots of silnylon, and some sewing skills, but I’m unsure about the whoopie slings. Where can I buy those? And what is the difference between a sling with eyes and without eyes? Thanks!
