    Strap Size

Most tree straps seem to be 1 inch to 1 1/2 inch in size. I was doing some checking so I could make some extea and I notised that 3/4 inch were rated at 1200 lbs. Is there any reason that you could not use 3/4 inch insted of 1 inch?

Exactly. Wider straps theoretically distribute your weight over a wider space, mitigating the pressure on the tree. I don't think this has been conclusively proven on a whiteboard with equations and such, but we subscribe to the theory.

I wonder if anyone has used 3/4" successfully without harming the trees. I also wonder to what pount is the true standard why that is? It must have been tested at some point.

I'd still say its probably not worth the little weight saved at potential risk to the trees. Gotta remeber with out the trees we wouldn't be hanging

One of the other threads has the math somewhere, but I don't remember which. Whether 3/4 is good to go or not is going to be a function of the type of tree (soft bark needs bigger), the angle of your suspension (flatter means more pressure on the horizontal/tree) and your weight.

Here's a shot at the math from the 5/8" mule tape discussion...
