Not big enough for a full length hammock, but this cutting table is great for your back (and legs). It frequently goes on sale for $60

On top of that I have a mat (do not use rotary cutter on this - it's not self-healing!): hmmmmm this looks like the one I have but it says it's OK for rotaries. I don't want to scratch it up, so will continue to put the ominipads underneath.

Here's the link to JoAnn's cutters, mats, rulers. I started with the cheaper Dritz & Fiskars cutters, but after going to an introductory quilting class upgraded to Olfa (and I found a Gingher boxed set in the clearance section).

If buying Omnigrid rulers, note that they have some that are called Omnigrip that have a non-slip backing. They do sell a roll of a clear "paper" that you can stick (like contact paper) to a regular ruler to make it non-slipping.

If you are right handed, you would run the cutter with your right hand and walk your fingers up the ruler as you progress - helps to keep the ruler from slipping as you cut.

If you are starting out with rotaries and pads, Wal-Mart usually has a kit at a good price. Also, JoAnn has an Olfa set that you can either get on sale, or use a coupon.

My JoAnns (in Miami) have sold out of their Fusion magazine, but it looks as if it's still available online. The blurb says it has six coupons, but I could have sworn there were eight...6 at 40% and 2 at 50%.

They will probably have another Spring edition. I buy one every time I go in as the coupons are usually valid for 6 months or so.

Caution. More than one HF member has visited the ER after using their rotary cutter. A crazy sharp blade that you move quickly deserves respect.
