I needed a Nanutuck this week just to walk to the mailbox (in Georgia) Our blood is too thin for this weather.

I prefer to travel to anyplace that gets below 20 degrees.

Real close! I wasn't thinking about opening the end due to heat loss and I'd like to see the back open to get around compression but maybe if the back was made of synthetic material it would matter "as much".

Why oh why can't I have an ORIGINAL idea?

what about a reverse poncho? As in a poncho folds in the middle with the ends hanging down, this would fold in the middle with the ends "hanging" up! So you'd have a large slit for your legs to poke out, and velcro on the bottom section to attach it to your back and as a foot box when in quilt mode.

The other thing I've thought about is an overquilt with arms and a hood. Not sure how to describe this but the overquilt would have the footbox and arms (or no arms) but with a hood attached to it. The only part that would actually be open is from the top of the footbox to mid-shoulder or close.

<- Like this but all one piece.

If I could draw I would sketch one up. Maybe I'll try tomorrow to see if I can convey this idea. I know I did a crappy job describing it.
JRB Sniveller series quilts with JRB Hood and Sleeves will make up un this manner.
