DIY Idea - Overquilt with arms

Say I make an overquilt, footbox and everything, but I put arms on it? I find when I sleep I don't like to keep my arms under my quilt, blanket, etc. I think I'd also cut our where it comes around my neck to allow it to ride higher.

The other thing I've thought about is an overquilt with arms and a hood. Not sure how to describe this but the overquilt would have the footbox and arms (or no arms) but with a hood attached to it. The only part that would actually be open is from the top of the footbox to mid-shoulder or close.

<- Like this but all one piece.

If I could draw I would sketch one up. Maybe I'll try tomorrow to see if I can convey this idea. I know I did a crappy job describing it.

Think of it as an OverQuilt and a jacket with hood combo. Basically only that which would get laid on (except feet in footbox) is a one piece thing.

I smell patent and a big buy-out from a major manufacturer. Then I'll sponsor a large hang somewhere awesome and we will share some cold beverages. I'll even buy the beverages.

You could have a down jacket with a hood, add a zipper where you can zip on a short TQ.
You can then use the down jacket as extra clothing when you take breakes but also as sleeping gear.
Would lighten up the pack anyway.

Please send me one when youre done.....

This was going kinda in that direction... just short sleeves.

It actually worked great except for being to bulky & heavy because of the materials I used & also I made it to small/tight.
I keep thinking I will do an improved version but just can't get around to it.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

I had considered that but with a flap on the OQ that would velcro to the jacket seal it all up.

Of course the OQ with sleeves properly done around the neck and shoulder area would be enough because then any baklava with sweatshirt / coat would do. But an integrated system would be nice for those that do a good bit of cold weather hanging.

There is no second version if there isn't a first, right?

So a down snuggie, with a hood?
I wouldn't like it, but hey, it might be worth a shot for you.

    Good concept.
I believe the Jacks have a similar design with sleeves and a hood that are seperate items.
Keeping the hood and sleeves seperate allow you to wear them as needed. If they were attached to the TQ, you could not utilize them as additional layers when hiking or chilly mornings.

The shoulders and sleeves and hood design would be nice for an extra layer.

Or just buy a jacket with hood and use an elephants foot for your legs. About the same weight savings as a quilt sine you can wear the jacket when your not sleeping. Only problem here is finding a solid jacket baffled to 3" for serious winter. Most jackets aren't made for the metabolism drop of sleeping so they're warm for winter only if you're somewhat active.
