the art of dealing with the package and SWMBO

I'm fairly new to hammocking. In fact, I don't even have my hammock yet. But when Paul from Arrowhead had his sale, I couldn't resist. I ordered my underquilt and some whoopie slings and the package arrived in the mail yesterday (everything looks awewome by the way). I had not yet had the dreaded conversation with SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) about what I had ordered. Of course she opened the box and was waiting for me when I got home. I'm can't say she was mad, but at the very least she was skeptical. So it took some major explaining, but I managed to smooth things over pretty well. As I tried to explain why I "had" to buy what I did, it suddenly occurred to me this was exactly like when she comes home from Kohl's and tells me how much money she SAVED! I guess I'll have to be more understanding of her shopping sprees now too, now that I have the hammock bug. She caught on pretty quick, because one of the first questions she came at me with was, "Well, how much is the rest of the set up going to cost..." I tried to be evasive and explain that once I get a hammock and tarp, then I can just add a few other little things over time All in all, it went better than I expected. Just wondered if anyone else has any good stories about the package in the mail and SWMBO.

Yes....say it was a SALE....and it is a way better extracurricular activity than a lot of options men choose.

    LMFAO,

I don't have a SWMBO. No, my girlfriend would call me HWMBO however.

    Yeah, you better believe it.

This situation reminds me of the three rings of marriage:

    The engagement ring.

    The wedding ring.

    The suffering.

LOL, ask my wife though and she'll tell you she is the suffering one. I hid my snoring before we got married.

I used to have this issue, now she just shakes her head. Of course, I don't ask questions when new shoes walk in the door.

There is no art, just a simple rule that must be strictly followed:

The package (as well as any hints, rumors, or evidence that said package may exist) and SWMBO must never, EVER come into contact. In the mind of SWMBO, the package cannot exist. Never forget this.

Similarly, this rule must be applied to anyone who knows or has contact with SWMBO. Remember: two can keep a secret if one of those two people is dead.

I carry a pistol with a single bullet in it just in case I have been careless in following the aforementioned rules--not for SWMBO, mind you (mere bullets would only anger and annoy her), but rather for myself. It's a coward's way out, I know, but I wish to spare my children the prolonged sounds of their father's unmanly screams as SWMBO restores order to the family finances by obliterating the offending spender.

It's just a matter of time, really. If things should go awry, speak of me as I am.... then, must you speak of one that spent not wisely but too well.

May the force be with you, and heaven have mercy on your soul
You're gonna need a bigger hammock

My wife and I celebrated our 23rd anniversary yesterday. One of the keys to keeping things strong between us is separate accounts. We have a joint account that direct deposits go into that pays the mortage, utilitties, etc.... and we each have our own account from which to purchase what we would like from. I linked paypal to my separate account, and order what I will as I have saved for.

As for Kohls, I got my gold card months before my wife did!
