    Question Fire proof hammock

I love my blackbird but im looking for a cheap secondary hammock (net style instead of fabric) for specific occasion that i need to lay in a hammock a few feet from the fire without fear of ambers burning through the fabric..

If i don't find anything .. i was planing on weaving 550 paracord into one but i would rather buy one already made. Its for our next year "bring anything you want as long as the whole bag is below 5 pounds" survival trip.. sleeping in that would be a luxury.. but its too cold to just bring a 200$+ hammock without a quilt... I need to take advantage of the fire if i hope to sleep in those conditions.

Can you suggest me a "good", small and mostly strong (260lbs+) net hammock?

the supershelter is a good idea but not for what i am looking for in that particular situation.. i dont want to carry a big plastic sheet, etc.. forget the "cold weather" part of my question then..

Looking for a link/seller of any good netting hammock

    - strong enough for a 260lbs+ guy
    - small to carry
    - anti-embers since its cordage (no silnylon)

I am used to sleep on the ground in survival situation.. so i could carry that small hammock and sleep next to the fire.. "à la belle étoile" when i dont/cant carry my wbbb

Try a google search on mayan hammocks. that might get ya somewhere. I would have to say, if you can weave your own , use mason line instead of para-cord, for a serious weight saving. It should still hold plenty of weight. I have at least 2 souvenir hammocks made of what looks like extra thin mason line, double stranded, That I got in Viet Nam. They have held up well over the yrs.
Also: If you're gonna be hangin' that close to the fire, don't you 'spect that embers will burn holes in what you're wearing, in stead of the net?

How about this and a wool blanket? Just keep any nylon inside the wool to protect it.

You could make a hammock out of 1.9 UC with fire retardant like this http://www.seattlefabrics.com/nylons...yester Ripstop . I've had half a mind to make a hammock and a winter tarp w/a stove jack out of it. That way if I had a stove accident I shouldn't turn into a fire ball like sil can. Fire resistant isn't fire proof but I think fire proof material maybe to heavy (think welding blanket). If you go this route please post your results.

    Nomex??

How about a gathered end style hammock of NOMEX?? I see that Magnafabrics and I'd assume other places have the material for sale. It's heavier than ripstop but not too bad. This is the stuff they make fire retardant flight and driving suits from....More comfortable than a net hammock.

First I wont be "that close" and when i say close.. its still gonna be closer to the fire than any HH, WBBB, etc.. high end silnylon hammock will ever get with me. I have strict rules about not putting hole in my 200$ hammock.

also, depending on the type of wood you find, the effect will be different.. some burn/explode more than other type of wood. Most people dont make any difference between type of wood and just burn anything available.

To get back to my question..

Thank you Trooper for the "Rothco Super Hammock" suggestion.. that is what i am looking for.. but.. hold up to a ton ?? geez

    - Does someone else have a suggestion on where to buy that kind of hammock.. ? Is there a "cadillac" netting hammock that is superior to all others ?

    Thank you for your time
