Where to buy a decent hammock in Christchurch New Zealand?

Right, so I own a lovely WBBB plus Stormcrow underquilt that I was planning of spending the next 12 months in, while travelling in New Zealand and Australia. Unfortunately, I decided to send it (together with some camping and cycle touring equipment) to New Zealand by post. Big mistake, as it turns out that NZ Post is neither able to read (the address sticker) nor able to listen (to the phone). They decided that the parcel is abandoned, for reasons they are not able to explain, and sent it back to Germany.

To cut a long story short: I won't get my stuff before February. And I'm now considering buying a hammock to bridge the time. Can't and don't want to order it online, since it would take too long. So anybody know where I can buy something decent around Christchurch - or on the South Island? Doesn't need to be light, since I will be travelling by car now. But should be comfy.

    Thanks for your help...

For an inexpensive short-term fix, you can go to any fabric store and get some fabric and make one. 4 yards of pretty much anything heavy enough to support your weight and at least 4-5 feet wide will work. The edges don't need to be hemmed. Just gather the ends and tie an overhand knot. Use a larkshead below the knot for the suspension. For insulation, closed cell foam pads are usually easy to find too

    Hammock In NZ

Could be wrong, but I thought Hennessy Hammocks now have a manufactutring site there on the south island. I think I saw it on their web site somewhere. Could be worth a look.

    Hutz,
Try hooking up with some of the HF folks from Oz and NZ. They may have some loaner gear for ya.
My sons fiancee was over there last year and she said they had hammocks down under. She was in Christchurch for 6 months. I'll see if she has any input.

She say there is an REI, Katmandhu Sports, and several other sporting goods outlets.
She believes that REI and Katmandhu had hammocks. She says that these stores are located in downtown Christchurch.
    Good luck.

    Thanks for all the advice.

At the moment I don't want to go down the DIY hammock road. I would have not only to get the cloth but also the webbing etc. - and wouldn't know where, to be honest.

I also contacted Hennessy Hammocks. They don't have a shop selling their hammocks in or near Christchurch, unfortunately. There is one in the south which I might stop by. But it will take some time to get there.

@ gargoyle: Thanks for asking; I know where Kathmandu is and will check later if the sell hammocks. Can't remember seeing any, though, when I was there two weeks ago. I also can't find a REI. Are you sure it's REI? There are a couple of outdoor stores, but they are all called differently.

wow, just for fun I did a search of outdoor stores in Christchurch and searched for hammocks, but there were zero hits.
The only thing i saw was that Ampro will send a Hennessy Hammock to one of the local stores in Christchurch for pick up. www.ampro.co.nz
    good luck

Sorry. RSS Sports..she knew it had letters in it.
But searching their site I don't see hammocks.
Your best bet may be your hammock brethren, down under. PM's may prove fruitful.

Thanks, I visited every outdoor shop that I could find today, including Kathmandu and RSS, I think. Nobody stocks hammocks. Either they don't anymore (Kathmandu), or they only consider it for next year. Seems I'm not supposed to go hammock camping for the time being
