Help - Got new suspension and think I've broken it already

Found my JRB Complete Hammock Suspension system in the mail when I got home this afternoon.

Swapped it over to my HH Explorer Deluxe and went to do a test hang on some trees at the school across the road. Unfortunately it was pretty dark and I forgot to bring a torch and being excited just decided to give it a try.

Anyhoo, looks like I've pulled the adjustable loop splice too far and it's sort of looped in on itself if that makes any sense.

I've tried for the past 20 minutes to get it out but no matter what I do, it just won't pop back out to become a loop again.

Have I stuffed it? Can I fix it? Who shot Mr Burns!?

    Please help

    Cheers,

    Jason.

Prof. Plumb shot Mr. Burns in the library with a candlestick as witnessed by Col. Mustard.

Try a straightened paperclip or dull needle. Use two of these as tools, lay the rope down on a table. Try to "milk" the line back out the same hole it was originally in. I've done a few, so it can be done.
But you have to return the loop out the same gap in the braid.

Hi gargoyle, thanks for the swift response.

Unfortunately I've pulled it in about half a mm or so into the gap so it's nigh on impossible to actually see the gap to figure out where it's meant to come out.

I've used a dulled skewer, a paperclip and even tried a pair of tweezers to no avail. Is there not a button I can press or a CTRL and a Z key so I can "undo" what I've done?

**** my eagerness and the darkness. **** them both to hell.

I guess I'll just have to keep on trying

just take your time, compress the rope (as opposed to stretching it out) slowly push the loose end back in, try to find out where it used to come out of, separate the strands to make an opening (be careful not to damage the strands), again take your time and slowly proceed to get it back out, a mm is not that bad you can do it!!!

whoops, I meant half a cm so 5mm!

it all just looks the same to me, there doesn't appear to be anywhere where it looks like there is a gap as it's looped in on itself quite a bit, and no matter what I do, I can't get it to pull out at all to see where the gap is.

    it's driving me quite batty

again take your time, look closely at the braid, you should notice a spot where it seems to have inverted strands, that is where your exit is
it will be small so really examine the rope and don't stress out, it happens but it can be easily fixed

When you do it back out, install a standard key ring on the adjustable loop to act as a back splice preventer. I've undone back splices, fixed eye loops and chain links with a bit of effort. I found small needle nose pliers to work the best.

    Good Luck

An hour of frustrating work with VERY tiny reward at first is standard. & as you can see, you are not the first,,, not the last either.
Take your time, follow the above suggestions & put that key ring on as soon as you have a loop clear! If you don't have a key ring, tie on a sturdy piece of cord to prevent this from happening again, & it will happen again unless you take precautions.
The good news is, it is fixable!

Would it be easyer just to pull the whole thing out and use some small wire to re-run the loop?

    Well I gave up.

Instead I emailed JRB and asked how much a single whoopie would cost and they sent me one for free!

I called them this evening (I'm in Perth, Western Australia) and spoke with Jack (I'm not sure which one ) and thanked him for being so kind as it was entirely my own fault.

A MASSIVE thumbs up to the great guys at JRB, their customer service is bloody marvellous!!!!!

    Cheers,

    Jason.
