I like the look of Mac's hammock sock with the insultex lining. I have 2 questions. I was thinking of making one for myself with 2 layers on the bottom and 1 layer for the top? kind of like a pea pod. Second can a sock be made with sinylon and used for foul weather alone without a tarp?

Condensation could be an issue when using the sock made of sil. It would likely soak you in your own sweat. Have to design in a lot of vents.

I made one that was half DWR and half untreated ripstop. You couldn't use it without a tarp, but it definitely kept this wind out, and breathed well.
DWR would be nice as it would add protection from splash and still breath nicely. I think you could possibly go this route and getaway with a smaller tarp because if you get some splash from the ground it would be ok. Just a thought.
